Home paternity tests have become more popular over the last few years. The home paternity test allows the party involved, to take a test at an affordable cost, andmore importantly in privacy. These tests are for ease of mind, personal knowledge, or curiosity. The huge question is how exact is the test?
According to a recent study, the test is based on 15 markers, this making the test extremely accurate. If you are able to collect the child's, the potential dad's and the mom's DNA, the test is 99.9 percent accurate. If the mom’s DNA isn’t collected then the test is still 99% right, that’s pretty good. Manufacturers of the tests say this is the same test forensic and legal agencies have been using for several years. Truthfully, we can't say for sure how right the home paternity testing is, because they aren’t regulated by the FDA. Although, they are shown to be very accurate, their results won’t resolve any legal issues you may be having. Because the samplings are taken in private, there’s the possibility of dishonesty, samplings taking without permission, and fraud. Legal paternity testing, is required, in order to claim custody or child support.
Both paternity test are usually conducted the same way. All the parties involve will give a saliva sample. In this procedure, a cotton-like swab is rubbed inside each person’s mouth, (against the inside of their cheek).
The home testing kits can be found at your local drugstore and usually cost less then thirty dollars. Again, keep in mind that the home paternity test is merely for your personal knowledge. If you want to resolve legal problems such as custody, or child support payments, a legal paternity test is required. Legal testing can be more expensive, but can be done in confidante at your local health department.
